Nagaland... A place which is not much common among tourist destinations in India. But I would say , it is a hidden gem. The beauty of Nagaland is in his traditions, culture and natural beauty. If I haven't got a transfer to the branch in Nagaland, I would have never planned to visit Nagaland.
This weekend we have decided to visit two small villages in Wokha district , Lakhuti and Sanis. We have contacted Fr. Thomas in Bishop's House, Dimapur and he has happily agreed to accompany us. At first we started to Lakhuti. There are two ways from Dimapur to Lakhuti. One through Kohima, the Capital of Nagaland and other way through Merapani, a place in Assam. We chose the latter one as it is the fastest route. We will cross many beautiful small villages like Bhagvati, Bandari,.. etc on the way. The route to the villages are narrow and rough. We were lucky that we havent received rain on the way as it can block the way. We started early morning 5.30 and reached Lakhuti by 10.00. We were welcomed by Fr. Shaji and Sr. Jessy in Don Bosco School, Lakhuti. After having breakfast and spending some time with them, we have started to Sanis. Fr. Jose Sebastian from St. Paul School welcomed us at his School. We had a nice lunch there and visited the school compound. By 3.00 Pm , we started to see Doyang Dam
Doyang Dam is the only Hydro electric project in the state of Nagalnd. Due to some leak in the Dam, there were not much water in the Dam. The place is blessed with Natural beauty.. It's very peaceful and calm and we wont know the time passing while we enjoy the view. As we have to reach back Dimapur by night , we reluctantly started back to Dimapur.
Those who wish to visit Nagaland, Dimapur is the only place where there is railway station and Airport in Nagaland. You have to come to Dimapur either by flight from Kolkata or via train. Once you reach Dimapur, dont forget to take ILP (inner line permit) from DC office, as it is necessary to travel anywhere other than Dimapur in Nagaland. There are lot of villages and mountains all around nagaland to visit. First week of December will be the best time to visit Nagalnd as the famous Hornbill festival in Kohima is during that period.
